A thankyou from Kevin Allen & Angie Stephenson.

Kevin and Angie’s daughter Jodie had a Kidney and Pancreas Transplant. Kevin and Angie were in the flats and came along to the fundraising night at David Lloyd. They wrote to say thank you to the FHLTA for the use of Cheviot Court accommodation and a special “thank you” to Derek Airey for his friendship and help at a most difficult time. Derek made everything so much easier for them.

A thankyou from Karl Hills and his family from Daventry

My name is Teresa Hills. My son, Karl, had a heart transplant at the Freeman on 10th March 2012. I am writing to give feedback on the help that we, as a family, received from the FHLTA.

Karl was admitted to the Freeman on 16th January to await his transplant. He had been on the waiting list since September 2011 but on 10th October that year, he had a massive stroke. He was taken off the waiting list for three months to allow him to recover. He was really poorly by January 2012 and was admitted on the 16th of that month and waited for a donor to be come available. Karl got the call on 10th March and his transplant was a success.

When he was transferred to Ward 38, we met the Chairman of the FHLTA, Derek Airey who was a great help to the family. Karl had two young boys whom he had not seen for some weeks and who lived over 240 miles away. It would have been very expensive to arrange for them to visit their Dad but Derek made arrangements for his wife Billie and the two boys to come to Newcastle to see Karl which really boosted his morale. Then on the weekend, myself and Karl’s Dad came to visit and were allowed to stay in the Flats at Cheviot Court which was a great financial help as after Karl’s transplant his Dad was having to pay local Bed & Breakfast rates.

We found the flats to be very clean and comfortable and at £6 per person per night, very affordable compared to local B&B costs. We would all like to thank the FHLTA for their help and support through this difficult time and for future outpatient visits.

Mr & Mrs Hills, Karl and Family.

A big Thankyou to the FHLTA and in particular the chaiman, Derek Airey for all his help from Mrs Sharon Hart and family.
