Most other sports (University of Birmingham Sport and fitness). The Sport and fitness centre provides fantastic facilities and with so many events on here will be great for supporters. The facility has only been opened 9 months. (And there is a Costa!!!)

The Games this year are trying to create a Games Village. After the opening ceremony, we will come back to The Vale where a marquee/party will be held.

After the donor run will be a hog roast/BBQ at the Vale.

As encouraged to do so, we have reserved accommodation at the Vale (university/village).

The facilities comprise of blocks of 6 rooms in a flat.

Each room has a 3qtr bed, en-suite toilet, sink and shower and then the six rooms have lovely shared areas which have a seating, dining table and chairs and great area to congregate and socialise after a busy day. (won’t be equipped so take what you need in terms of cups/cutlery/plate).

Step outside of the flat and a couple of minutes’ walk you are at the student hub where there are several eateries, bars, coffee shops, supermarket and cashpoint. This is where breakfast will be served (from 6.30am).

If the weather is good, there is loads of outdoor space and the atmosphere will be great.

Accommodation (including breakfast) is £48 for more than 3 nights and £54 if 3 or fewer nights.

The vale is a 15-minute walk to the sport and fitness centre and it is from here that transport to other venues will leave.

There should also be some sort of shuttle bus service from the vale to the sports centre for those not wanting to walk across campus.

There is also a university train station near the sports and fitness centre which get you to Birmingham New Street in less than 7 minutes.

It is hoped that the team will embrace the atmosphere on offer at the student accommodation but if you feel it’s not for you then the ease of access from Birmingham New Street means booking a hotel near the station is something you could look at.

Stourport Sports Park has been chosen as a very desirable venue by the cyclists. It is 40 minutes from the Vale and there is NO transport provided (The reason for this apparently is the logistics/cost of transporting very expensive bikes). If this is going to be a problem for any competitors, let me know asap and we/the organisers will try to come up with something, but we need to know in advance, not at the time.

Please don’t let this stop you cycling if that’s your thing!

I have been told there are locked bike storage units at the accommodation.

50 metre pool within sports and fitness centre.

Opening Ceremony

Symphony Hall  (inside the ICC, with parade first from city centre). Supporters will be seated on the first floor and athletes will enter and be seated on ground floor.

Gala Celebration

ICC – It has not been finalised at this stage, the offering nor the cost. However, last years situation came up many times over the weekend. In Scotland, the organisers were very let down at the 11th hour by external caterers.

The people at the ICC put these types of events on daily and confirmed that the room holds 1700 people and they can get 1700 people seated with food in 35-40minutes. All their catering is in-house and doesn’t faze them at all.

There is a limit of 1700, so tickets will be on a first come first served basis.

More details will be available once registration opens.

Friday night.

The  Vale – Hub.

The darts will be in a marquee adjacent to the hub where the bars and eateries are. Two minutes from the accommodation!

Alexander Stadium

Approximately 30min on bus.

Bus will be from Vale (not sports centre)

Lots of covered seating and area outside with food offerings. There are no nearby shops,  if you don’t want food from vans I would take a picnic.
