Every 2 years the Freeman Heart & Lung Sports Team have the opportunity to join team GB in the European Heart & Lung Transplant Federation (EHLTF) Games. The next games will take place in 2020 in Vitoria Gasteiz (Spain). This is the capital of the Basque Country.

These games are open to all Heart / Lung adult recipients. There is no qualification necessary. In 2018, GB took a team of about 60 including supporters. I think all would agree that they are very friendly and a great experience.  Lynda Ellis is now team manager she is contactable on

Most direct way is a flights to Bilbao and it’s about an hour transfer, buses will be laid on.

Vitoria is a town within the Basque region of Spain surrounded by beautiful countryside and stunning scenery. It is also very close to the large rioja wine region. Excursions will be offered to the surrounding area and after our visit you should take advantage of them if possible and timetables permit.

The climate whilst we were there was warm and sunny but with colder in Mornings and Evenings. A jumper and a raincoat are advised as rain isn’t unheard of in June.
